The prevalence of major dental diseases in preschool and school-age children remains high, which requires improvement of preventive care, including by the use of effective means of personal hygiene. Despite the fact that children of 3-4 years old become more independent, their manual skills remain insufficiently developed for self-cleaning their teeth until up to 9-10 years old. Parents should understand that daily toothbrushing should be performed by parents until this age. A child should be taught to brush his teeth properly, but never leave the toothbrushing just to the children themselves. The proper technique of toothbrushing should be observed both by parents and children. Responsibility, including that for dental health of children rests solely on parents! Together with the child, be sure to visit your dentist and dental hygienist at least twice a year!
On the one hand, according to numerous studies it has been determined that fluoride toothpastes for children are of a high medical effectiveness. On the other hand, in the medical community it is often suggested to restrict the use of fluorine-containing hygiene products in products for younger children who are known to swallow toothpaste. This is especially true for children living in areas of endemic fluorosis. Lengthy clinical studies have shown that calcium phosphate containing toothpastes, the anticarious effectiveness of which is high and comparable to the fluoride systems, can be an alternative to fluoride toothpastes.
